Are you unsure about what to do next in your pregnancy journey? Confirm your pregnancy with an ultrasound. After a positive lab-quality pregnancy test, our medical staff can provide a limited obstetrical ultrasound, at no cost.

What Does an Ultrasound Do?

A positive pregnancy test isn’t enough information to make a thoughtful and confident decision about your unexpected pregnancy. You need to know more about your health and safety. Whichever pregnancy option you choose (abortion, adoption, or parenting), this is an essential step to your decision-making process.

What Is an Ultrasound?

Ultrasound is a safe and pain-free procedure to determine more details about your pregnancy. Ultrasound uses the echo of high-frequency sound waves to create images of the inside of your uterus. A sonographer puts a gel-like substance on your abdomen. Then, a device called a transducer is rubbed over the gel on your stomach.

The sound waves the transducer picks up are converted into images on a screen for the sonographer to review. They can tell you the specific details of your pregnancy.

Why Do I Need an Ultrasound?

Here are the three reasons you need to have an ultrasound scan:

1. Know the Gestational Age

If you’re considering abortion, the number of weeks you’ve been pregnant (the gestational age) determines what abortion method you qualify for. Do you feel confident you know the date your pregnancy started?

If you want to have a medical abortion, you need to do so before eleven weeks. After this time a surgical abortion is your option for your pregnancy up to twenty-three weeks gestation.

2. Know if the Pregnancy Is Viable

You’ll know whether or not you’ve had a miscarriage with an ultrasound. If you haven’t miscarried, an ultrasound will reveal your pregnancy is growing and a heartbeat is detected (viability).

3. Know Where the Pregnancy Is Located

An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy located outside of the uterus. This can result in serious medical problems. An ectopic pregnancy can only be detected with ultrasound and can’t be changed with abortion.
